We're taught that if we're not already successful, if we're not already confident, if we're not already [insert whatever you don't have and are not], all we have to do is "act as if", then you will become.
I've tried that and I can tell you that it's unauthentic. You feel like you're pretending to be someone that you're not. All for what?
I'm not saying it doesn't work, but it's not a long-term solution. If you want to act as if... and feel good about it, then you should be doing the things that you would be doing once you get there, TODAY.
"Getting there" is second to what you'll be DOING once you get there.
When I say, "Act as if...", I'm not saying you should fake your way there. I am saying, DO the activities that you would be doing as if you were already there.
As you think about your goals and where you're trying to go, think about the activities that you'll be doing once you get there.
What if you started doing those activities TODAY? instead of waiting until you "get there" to do them.
What you might notice as you begin "doing" and "thinking" like that is that you might not actually enjoy the journey.
You might really hate the work.
If that's the case, that's a clue for you that maybe, just maybe, "getting there" isn't worth the energy and time.
Don't waste time thinking about where you're trying to go.
Instead, put in the time and the energy to do what you'd be doing if you were already where you want to be.
